Alf Carroll is the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Black Belt at Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) where he specializes in new technology program insertion.
As a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer, Alf works in both Advanced Technology Programs (ATP) and Supplier Innovation (SI) engineering teams. Alf has also led many Technology projects including Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (AT/FP), Ballistic Protection, Naval Systems, Anti-Tamper and Energy Security/Assurance. Enabled by Raytheon’s tremendous support and a positive ‘Lean Forward’ engineering culture, Alf also supports the ZUMWALT Destroyer and Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR).
Alf is a passionate champion and technical leader of SBIR programs across Raytheon, DOD and DOE. In this role, he promotes “outside the box” concepts and innovative solutions that enable collaboration with Subject Matter Experts, Technology Directors, energy experts, Program Managers, Universities, and many small businesses.
In 2007, Alf received Raytheon IDS Technical Honors, and since 2006 he has sponsored five Systems Engineering Technical Development Projects (SETDP) programs for Raytheon. In 2011, Raytheon’s Leadership awarded “Our People Our Honorees” and “Global Mentoring Excellence” to Alf for his commitment to mentoring young talent.
Before coming to Raytheon in 2003, Alf held engineering and leadership positions at General Dynamics/EB, C.S. Draper Laboratory, Sippican, and Communica, the latter two being small businesses. Technology domains spanned Submarines, UUV’s, Torpedo Defense, F/O Telemetry, and OS/Embedded SW R&D.
Alf earned an MS in Ocean Engineering from MIT while a C.S. Draper Fellow and a BS in Mechanical Engineering with Honors from Northeastern University, preceded by 2 years at the US Coast Guard Academy.
Alf is Raytheon’s Global Northeast GLBTA Director of Communications, is the Proud Father of 2 Young Americans, is the former Chairman of the Salvation Army Greater New Bedford, MA, and Co-Chairs the Engineering Technical Advisory Board at Upper Cape Regional High School.
