Commander Victor Sorrentino is a native of Smithton, PA and a graduate of Boston University where he received his commission in the United States Navy through the Reserve Officers Training Corps. At sea, Commander Sorrentino has served in minesweepers, frigates, cruisers and aircraft carriers. He completed his division officer tours in USS CHAMPION (MCM-4) and USS FORD (FFG-54) and his department head tours in USS SAN JACINTO (CG-56). He served as ship’s company in USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75) as the Auxiliaries Officer for his XO tour and embarked in USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71) as part of Carrier Strike Group TWO Staff. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff, Standing NATO Maritime Group TWO embarked in German and Dutch flagships. Ashore, Commander Sorrentino served as an instructor, Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC), and Fires Subject Matter Expert at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in Fallon, NV. His tours on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff include Requirements Officer for Director Surface Warfare (N86) and Branch Chief, Director, Navy Staff Executive Integration and Synchronization. Commander Sorrentino has deployed from both coasts and participated in exercises and operations throughout the world including combat operations in Iraq and humanitarian efforts in Haiti. Commander Sorrentino assumed his current position as Deputy Director for Operational Energy in January of 2017. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Combat Action Ribbon, and various other personal and unit awards and campaign medals. He is expected to complete a Master of Science degree in Environmental Management in the fall of 2017.
