A single photon x-ray detector would be a disruptive technology for the global X-ray market. It allows a 100 fold decrease of administered radiation dose opening doors for before unimaginable applications as human health risk is eliminated. It would also revolutionize existing markets like health care imaging, security screening, and radiation monitoring. It is estimated that currently as many as 2% of cancers in the United States are due to CTs performed in the past and that this may increase due to increased rates of CT use. This could be prevented by the use of detectors with high sensitivity. Our technology aims primarily to address this issue in providing a detector with very high, single photon, sensitivity.
