Nanopolymer Mixed Cathodes

Track: Energy & Resilience
Area: Energy Storage
Tech Readiness: TRL 4
Tech Brief: An electroconductive polymer replaces the binder and carbon materials usually mixed with active materials of a Lithium-ion cathode to greatly add energy storage and power capabilities while also increasing cycle life.
Value Proposition: Longer lasting batteries (higher energy capacity) generally fall short of power requirements. For instance only recently have light vehicles started switching over from lead-acid batteries to Lithium-ion. By improving energy capacity and increasing power, vehicles using the standard 6T battery packs would be able to run batteries much longer while still having access to meet necessary power requirements. This means fewer battery packs would be needed. For soldiers using battery packs, they would require fewer packs as well which both lightens loads and reduces their profile.
