Next generation bio-organic membrane: Ultrapure water
|AFFILIATION:||The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia|
Track: Advanced Materials
Area: Organic & Hybrid Materials
Tech Readiness: TRL 2
Tech Brief: This Project will create an aquaporin-hybrid membrane – comprising a defect-free lipid bilayer with correctly aligned AqpZ molecules – that reaches high rates of pure water production at close to the thermodynamic limit.
Value Proposition: The application of these membranes in the field will be significant, especially when sourcing polluted sources of water. It can also act as a first defence against pathogens and other poisons in water systems. The membranes will be designed to act rapidly and be available at all scales of water purification, ranging from drink containers to plant scales water-purification plants.
