Tech Brief: Mental health disorders are a significant problem for active military personnel and veterans. Barriers to help seeking including perceptions of weakness, confidentiality concerns and access to services1.eHub Health has a suite of evidence-based online products to reduce stigma and to build participant’s skills for prevention of depression and anxiety.

Value Proposition: Significant effort is being made by DOD to address the impact of mental health disorders on military personnel and their families, however assessments have indicated that many of the programs implemented are not evidence based. A 2014 report by the Institutes of Medicine recommended “Department of Defense (DOD) use existing evidence-based community-level prevention interventions and policies to address the psychological health of military members and their families”. The suite of programs offered by eHub Health have a strong evidence base for both the prevention and management of common mental health problems, and offer a cost-effective way to provide information and training to large numbers of participants. The online programs are easy to access (making them ideal for provision to geographically dispersed individuals), and can be used anonymously. E-hub Health’s programs complement other mental health strategies by providing training and information for individuals who may not otherwise seek help, for example due to lack of knowledge, stigma or lack of access to services.
