LookingGlass: Online Social Movements Tracker☆
|AFFILIATION:||Arizona State University, Phoenix, Arizona, United States|
Track: Cyber & Software
Area: Situational Awareness
Tech Readiness: TRL 7
Tech Brief: We use viral cascades (i.e. 2% rare) as sensors to identify, in real-time, (i.e. during 1st hour) what information is coming out of which groups and diffusing/spreading into which other groups; triggering what type of emotion; with what effect (i.e. radicalization, counter-radicalization); when (i.e. during which event) and where.
Value Proposition: LookingGlass is designed to overcome language barriers and cultural biases while identifying tagging, and analyzing vast amounts of text. Existing technology for monitoring social media tracks matching documents for lists of known groups, individuals, and places but they cannot read into natural multi-lingual ideological messages, discover emerging dynamics and connect the dots. A key distinguishing feature of our methodology is that we allow the discourse and actions of social movements, groups and individuals to define their orientations on multiple socio-cultural, political and behavioral scales.
