Tech Brief: Fluid-Screen detects bacterial contamination in 30 minutes as opposed to days. The technology combines microfluidics, microelectronics, and microbiology to first concentrate bacteria from any fluid sample and then directly detect those bacteria using our proprietary nanowire sensor technology.


Value Proposition: Fluid-Screen technology has the potential to detect biological weapons in the field before mass populations are exposed and before exposed persons spread through the community. The current working prototype can detect biological weapons agents in their pre-aerosolized form by concentrating active agents in fluid, and the nanowire sensor can easily be functionalized specifically to detect agents of interest. If there is military interest, the device can be engineered to capture and detect active aerosolized agents at low concentrations. As such, Fluid-Screen technology represents a portable method to detect and warn against particularly hazardous biological agents in military situations, allowing prudent national defense decision-making, and reducing the effects of a biological weapons attack by providing an early detection system for evacuation and quarantine.
