Tech Brief: The Portable Raman Improvised Detection (PRIED) system utilizes a laser to detect threat materials (explosives and chemicals) at standoff distances of up to 50m. PRIED is an easy to use point and shoot system with simple Threat/No-threat results displayed by LED's and on an Android Interface.

Value Proposition: PRIED is the first completely eye-safe standoff Raman instrument for sale. Utilizing Alakai’s patented eye-safe approach, the PRIED instrument can be utilized in any environment without the fear of endangering innocent bystanders with reflected laser beams (as is the case in standoff applications). By utilizing Deep UV Raman, PRIED overcomes two of the major disadvantages of Raman technology (it takes a long time and fluorescence will swamp out the signal). With PRIED detection times are 1-10s even when the operator is 10m away and the user doesn’t have to worry about ambient lighting or fluorescence obstructing the measurement. PRIED can even detect some explosives at 50m range in less than 20s.
