Track: Energy & Resilience
Area: Energy Storage
Tech Readiness: TRL 3
Tech Brief: General Capacitor is introducing a patented lithium-ion supercapacitor (LIC) that has a higher voltage and three times the energy density of conventional supercapacitors. The LIC has high rate of charge/discharge and long cycling life ideal for pulsed power and auxiliary storage applications.
Value Proposition: The LIC can greatly improve the efficiency of electrical systems by providing peak power assistance in applications that would normally drain battery life. Used in conjunction with lithium-ion batteries, its capability for 100,000 charge-discharge cycles can greatly reduce the memory effect on the battery system and greatly extend life of the system. Also, it's high energy density allows it to replace lead-acid batteries in many applications that require a reduction in weight and volume. Thanks to a patented electrode configuration, the LIC reduces the production cost one-third compared to conventional supercapacitors.
