Tech Brief: Wavelength Beam Combination offers a solution to the only limitation of semiconductor laser devices, poor output beam quality. It allows us to generate laser systems for Direct Energy Weapons, Infrared Countermeasures, etc., enabling higher power and efficiency, more versatile wavelength ranges and lower SWaP than existing advanced systems.
Value Proposition: For Infrared Countermeasures (IRCM), TeraDiode has been delivering lasers to the DoD that are cheaper, more efficient, smaller in size and weight, and higher in power by a factor of ten than anything else available on the market. These semiconductor based lasers are better than any other type of laser, including fiber, solid state, and chemical, because they offer the versatility of wavelength select-ability which is critical for atmospheric transmission and defeating advanced seeker threats. TeraDiode now allows semiconductor lasers to compete with these other laser technologies in power, while maintaining its superiority in SWaP, efficiency and cost. We are able to provide IRCM lasers to the DoD with more power on target for cheaper initial costs and lifetime costs. For Direct Energy Weapons we are very competitive with fiber and solid state lasers. In fact, most existing high power lasers use direct diodes as the pump source. By leveraging WBC we are able to eliminate the fiber or lasing medium altogether from these lasers, thus enhancing efficiency, size and cost once again.
