Tech Brief: BNNT is relatively new, but often compared to CNT for its mechanical and thermal properties, while chemical stability, high temperature endurance and piezoelectric property are much better than CNT. Here, we introduce highly efficient boron nitride nanotubes based electrical insulating thermal conducting materials as well as sensors using its piezoelectric characteristics.
Value Proposition: With boron nitride nanotubes we currently produced, light and tough metal/ceramic/polymer composites, whose mechanical and thermal properties are superior compare to currently available products, can be manufactured used for defense and space industry. In addition, piezoelectric sensing characteristics of boron nitride nanotubes is better than that of commercially available polymer based PVDF sensors. Based on this property, very sensitive, large and flexible, cheap piezoelectric sensor systems as well as energy harvesting systems are possible.
