Warfighter Load Distribution System (WLDS)

AFFILIATION:   biodesigns, inc., Westlake Village, California, United States

Track: Medical & Biotech
Area: Other
Tech Readiness: TRL 6

Tech Brief: Limb exoskeleton designed to redistribute a portion of backpack load to extremities while permitting full range of motion and maintaining proximity to core. It utilizes our patented Osseostabilizing technology already being implemented in prosthetic sockets for active duty soldier, veteran and civilian amputees and is intended for able bodied soldiers.

Value Proposition: The WLDS represents a paradigm change in the way the individual warfighter can carry greater and more complex loads of substantial weight across challenging terrains while increasing speed of accessibility to important battle implements, be they a weapon, a range finder, or medical kit that needs to be rapidly used, and where time is of the essence. By offloading a percentage of the weight from the inherently unstable and inefficient backpack, far fewer injuries commonly incurred from walking/marching long distances in a biomechanically compromised posture. Warfighter performance both on the approach, and in battle will be enhanced.
